ABOUT US.

We are John and Helen Harrison, We live in Derbyshire,in a small village called Heage, this a a modern take on the original name of High Edge, hence the website address and our affix.
Heage boasts the only 6 vaned working windmill in England, and grinds its own flour.

We fell in love with the breed 25 years ago, when we saw an article in a newspaper, but we could not afford the asking price for a pup (£1000) so put the idea out of our minds and had other breeds like Rottweilers and Akitas, We showed the Akitas under our Highedge affix, gaining a place at Crufts in 2002.

Last year, when we decided to look around again, we found our little girl Mahra in North Wales and when we saw her and mother, father and siblings, we fell in love all over again. She has been shown with success and gained 2nd place at Crufts in 2010.

We imported a young dog, Chi, from France. After leaving quarantine, he has been shown with some success and has qualified for Crufts for 2011.

We would like to thank Michelle for all the help and assistance she has given us, for which we are forever grateful.

Tibetan Mastiffs

ABOUT THE BREED.

The Tibetan Mastiff is an ancient breed. It has been traced back to 1121BC when a race leader in western China, gave one to Emperor Wu, its name was NGAU.
The Mastiff has been used for centuries by the monks, to guard the temples in Tibet and today they are used by the nomads to guard their flocks.

As a breed is not like any other, before you purchase a pup, you would be wise to do a lot of homework, What they are like to live with, train, feed, breed with etc. Talk to other owners (they are always eager to talk to prospective owners) Go to dog shows, blitz the internet, visit the club web site, (see links) In a nutshell, they can be either very easy going or difficult, they only eat when they are hungry, they always need strict handling, they only breed once a year around the New Year. Their coat is hypo-allergenic, but sheds once a year in spring, when they can be left nearly bald. they only need a brush once a week and a bath once a year if they are pets, more often if they are show dogs. But they do not smell! They are diggers, wood chewers and can be vocal.
